Most schools teach by ear and by imitation. That scales — and it plateaus. A child who has taken lessons for two years and can't read a single chart is a child whose teacher let them down. I teach with charts from day one.

Every chart uses the same teaching form — INTRO, VERSE 1, CHORUS, VERSE 2, OUTRO, then measures 33 to 64 left blank for the student to write their own part. Those blanks are the test: they reveal whether you actually read the chart or just memorised a pattern.
